Residential lock and key work, handled on site
Most people don't think about their home locks until something forces them to. A key breaks. A lock starts sticking. You move into a new house and wonder who else still has a copy of that original key. These are the calls we take every day at E-Mobilize Auto Key & Lockout.
We work as a mobile service, so the technician comes to you. No need to remove hardware and drive it somewhere. We rekey locks, replace deadbolts, make spare keys, and open homes when you're locked out — all at your front door. Not sure what you need? A quick phone call usually sorts it out.
What we handle on a typical residential call
Every home and lock is a little different. Here is the work that makes up most of our residential calls, with a note on when each one comes up.
House Lockout
Left the keys inside, or a lock that simply won't turn? We open residential doors without damaging the frame, the door, or the lock itself. Once you're back in, we can look at whether a worn lock or a miscut key was the underlying cause.
Lock Rekeying
Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so that old keys no longer work and a new key is cut to match. It costs less than replacing the hardware and is the right call after a move, a breakup, or any time you're not sure who holds a copy of the current key. We can rekey multiple locks to a single new key in the same visit.
Lock Replacement & Installation
When a lock is damaged, outdated, or just not up to the job, we swap it out and fit a new one correctly. We work with most standard residential lock brands and can advise on grade if you want something more resistant to picking or forced entry. Bought your own hardware? We can install that too.
Deadbolt Installation
A properly fitted deadbolt is one of the most effective upgrades you can make to a front or back door. We drill the bore, fit the bolt, and align the strike plate so the bolt throws cleanly and seats fully. A deadbolt that doesn't seat completely offers far less protection than one that does.
Key Duplication
Need a spare for a family member, a pet-sitter, or just peace of mind? We cut house keys on site. If a lock has been rekeyed in the same visit, we make all the copies you need at the same time so everything comes away matching.
Smart Lock Setup
Keypad and app-controlled locks offer convenience and the ability to change codes without cutting a new key. We install and configure smart locks on standard door preps, set up access codes, and make sure the mechanical backup works correctly before we leave. Have a model in mind? Ask us on the phone and we can let you know if it's a fit.

Call and describe it
Tell us what's happening — locked out, rekeying after a move, a deadbolt that needs replacing. That tells us what tools and hardware to load before we head to you.

We travel to homes across Folsom, Elk Grove, and the surrounding Sacramento area. No need to remove hardware or find a way to a shop.
Work done, tested, finished
We complete everything on site and check that every lock, key, and code works correctly before we leave. You try it yourself before we go.

The calls we get most often
You just moved in
A new home usually comes with a key history you know nothing about — previous owners, contractors, real estate agents. Rekeying the locks on the day you move in is a straightforward step that means the only keys in circulation are the ones you hand out yourself. We can rekey every exterior lock in a single visit and cut as many new copies as you need.
A lock is sticking or hard to turn
Locks that feel stiff or need lifting the door handle to turn are usually worn internally or have a misaligned strike plate. A lock that's fighting you is also a lock that could leave you standing outside at the wrong moment. We diagnose whether the issue is the lock, the key, or the door alignment and fix the right part rather than guessing.
You need to cut someone off
After a tenant moves out, a relationship ends, or a key goes missing, rekeying is the cleanest way to ensure the old key no longer works. It costs a fraction of new hardware and can be done quickly. We rekey on site and hand you the new keys before we leave, so there is no gap in between.
Rekey or replace?
Not every situation needs new hardware. Rekeying works when the lock itself is in good shape and you simply want to invalidate existing keys. Replacement makes more sense when the lock is damaged, worn, or you want a higher-grade deadbolt. We'll look at what you have, tell you the options, and give you a price for each before any work begins. Questions before you book? Our FAQ page covers the common ones.
Answers to what people ask us
Can you open my home without damaging the door or lock?
That is the goal on every lockout. We use tools designed to open residential doors through the frame without prying or drilling when possible. If the lock or door requires a more involved method, we explain the options and get your go-ahead first.
What is rekeying and how is it different from replacing a lock?
Rekeying changes the pin tumblers inside the existing lock cylinder so that old keys stop working and a new key is cut to match. The lock hardware, the knob or lever, and the deadbolt body all stay in place. Lock replacement means the entire hardware unit comes out and a new one goes in. Rekeying is usually faster and less expensive; replacement is the right call when the hardware is damaged or you want a different grade or style of lock.
Can you rekey multiple locks to the same key?
Yes. We can rekey several locks in a single visit so that one key works all of them. This is a common request when moving into a home that has mismatched locks from different eras, and it simplifies things considerably.
Do you install smart locks and keypad locks?
We do, for most standard residential door configurations. If you already have a model in mind, let us know on the phone and we can confirm it will work on your door prep before we arrive. We set up access codes and test the mechanical backup before we leave.
What do you need from me to open my home?
We ask for a photo ID and proof that you live at the address — a piece of mail, a utility bill, or a lease agreement works. We do this on every job and it protects everyone involved.
What are your hours?
We answer calls around the clock, including evenings and weekends. If you reach us at an unusual hour, give us the details and we will let you know what we can do and when we can be there.
How much does residential locksmith work cost?
The price depends on the job — a lockout call is one rate, rekeying a set of locks is another, and new hardware installation varies by the lock. We give you a price on the phone before we come out, so there are no surprises when we arrive.
